Getting Started (Surgical Requirements)

    STEPS TO BARIATRIC SURGERY



  1. Contact us. During the initial call our intake representative will ask you a few questions to determine if you are qualified for bariatric surgery. If so, go to Step 2


  2. We will schedule you for an information seminar which is usually held on Saturdays.  If you cannot attend and it is an urgency, we will try and make arrangements to conduct a personalized meeting with you.  The surgeon and our staff will present a detailed presentation about obesity surgery, the options and their associated risks and rewards at the group information sessions. During this meeting you will be given an information packet to complete if you decide to proceed in our program.  There is a short form which we would appreciate you filling out at the meeting.


  3. Or, print the following questionnaires shown below.  Complete them as best as you can and bring them to the seminar.  We will help you complete the information as well evaluate you.

  1. We will evaluate your financial information and make recommendations how you may cover the expense of this surgery. If you are covered by an insurance company we will contact them to determine the availability and amount of benefits.  If you don't have insurance, Rancho Specialty Hospital has different finaning options for your consideration.


  2. Once your financial situation is settled, we will schedule your first clinical appointment with a registered nurse who is also the bariatric program coordinator. Other appointments will be scheduled for you, or we will provide you with instructions to contact the specific provider for an appointment(s).3.The physician office will contact you and verify their benefits or professional fees.


  3. The insurance companies usually require a psychological evaluation and nutrition assessment, in addition to the usual labs and radiology tests, In some case, you will need a letter of clearance from your primary care physician.


  4. When all the tests and evaluations are completed, we will prepare a Letter of Medical Necessity and submit this to your insurance company for approval.


  5. Once the approval arrives, we will set a schedule date for your surgery. Our RN coordinator will be working very closely with you to coordinate all aspects of the clinical and administrative process with you to minimize any avoid any potential problems.



Remember, your Bariatric program coordinator is your principal contact. She is available 24/7 to answer any questions which you may have from pre-op to patient discharge and support group/aftercare.
